Minhaj UK is horrified and shocked by the brutal murders committed in Paris last night in what was an unprecedented and savage attack upon civilians in one of the world’s great cities. Whoever are found to be the perpetrators, we utterly condemn their bloodthirsty actions, which cannot be justified by any grievance or grudge. Their inhumane actions fall completely outside the ethical and moral limits proscribed by any religion or civilised system of life. It is imperative the attackers are found and subjected to criminal proceedings. We send our condolences to the bereaved, and to the injured our heartfelt sympathies and best wishes for recovery.
We caution governments against any over-reaction that may lead to unreasonable curtailment of civil liberties or disproportionate and unfair scrutiny of any communities, which would only strengthen the terrorists and their cause. Indeed, we request all governments and civil organisations to do all that is within their power to promote unity and cohesion within their societies at this critical time. We must all work together to eradicate all forms of extremism and to deal with its root causes, whether social, political or ideological.
[As a grassroots Islamic organisation with a presence throughout Europe, Minhaj ul-Quran International has been at the forefront of tackling extremism. Examples have included youth camps and activities to raise awareness of extremism and how to counter it, the launch of the Fatwa on Terrorism and Suicide Bombings in 2010, and more recently the launch of the Curriculum on Peace and Counter-terrorism on 23 June 2015 as part of its Peace Education Programme]
