The programme was arranged by the family along with the local Minhaj-ul-Qur’an (Ashton) branch. The family have been spiritual disciples of the Mashaikh of Jalalpur Shareef, District Jhelum, Pakistan for the last five generations, it was agreed to organise an Urs on this date, which also coincided with the actual Urs taking place on the same date at Jalalpur Shareef in Pakistan (6th Jammadhi-ul-Thanni).
The Urs was attended by Scholars, Mashaikh, Naat Khwaan’s and disciples of Jalalpur Shareef, Members and Executive leaders of Minhaj-ul-Qur’an, as well as the local and general public. The Ashton Central Mosque was the venue for the Urs gathering.

Within 45 minutes Shaykh Zeeshan Qadri kept the attention of the audience and gained praise from the Scholars and Mashaikh present, who appreciated the brief but concise presentation of this topic. Shaykh Zeeshan ended his talk with referencing the need to reflect on our deeds and not rely only on rhetoric. The pious and saintly persons such as Pir Syed Ghulam Haider Ali Shah Jalalpuri (rh) practiced what they preached, which is why the world remembers them and will continue to remember them. This is the message of Shaykh-ul-Islam Dr Muhammad Tahir-ul-Qadri sb to the Ummah as a whole and the Ahl-e-Sunnat Wal Jamm’at in particular, our practices must reflect what we preach, if we are to be effective.
Sajjid Ali Madni sb recited a Naat and also a eulogy written by Pir Muhammad Maqsood Madni sb for this occasion on the loss of parents.

Allama Tirmezi Shah sb emphasised on references from the biography of Pir Syed Ghulam Haider Ali Shah Jalalpuri (rh), written approximately 100 years ago titled ‘Zikar-e-Habib’. Allama Tirmezi Shah sb complemented the organising of the Urs and Khatam gathering and emphasised on the fact that although 106 years had passed since this great Saint left this world, they were still a beacon of spiritual inspiration to thousands of followers worldwide, as well as the Ummah generally. Allah (SWT)’s deen is enlightened and sustained by these Saints and there practices and teachings.
Haji Muhammad Ashfaq Warsi sb recited in his own unique style, the Naat “Bekhud Kiey Dethey Hai” written by Hadrat Bedham Shah Warsi sb (rh).

Madni sb ended their brief but illuminating talk by reciting a eulogy written by them for the Urs, in respect of Pir Syed Ghulam Haider Ali Shah Jalalpuri (rh). Madni sb also presented three of their recently published books to the guests.
Shaykh Muhammad Afzal Saeedi sb (President Minhaj-ul-Qur’an UK) presented a brief perspective on the status of the Mashaikh of Jalalpur Shareef and their role in the sub-continent. Shaykh Saeedi elaborated on how Jalalpur Shareef is one of those Khanqah’s to which the Muslims of the sub-continent are indebted for their existence and independence. The grandson of Sahib-e-Urs Hadrat Pir Syed Ghulam Haider Ali Shah Jalalpuri (rh), were known as ‘Amir-e-Hizbullah’ their name was Pir Muhammad Fazal Shah sb Jalalpuri. They founded ‘Hizbullah’ in 1927 as the ‘the Party of God’ and worked to give the Muslim masses a platform to unite and stand for their rights.
Shaykh Saeedi sb stated that before the creation of Pakistan, the Muslims of the sub-Continent were surpressed and felt the need for an identity at national and socio-political levels. Great leaders emerged in the shape of Allama Dr. Muhammad Iqba(rh) and Qaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah (rh), who started to work for and inspire people towards a Muslim identity in the sub-continent. The rural masses in the Punjab and in the Frontier province were linked to various schools of thought. But, a majority was clearly linked to the Astaanah’s of some famous Saints (Auliya) from these areas. He further elaborated that many groups and spiritual orders will write about their leaders and achievements. But, a far more substantive reference is found when others accept the leadership qualities and methodology of a leader. David Gilmartin from the University of California (Berkley) has in 1979 had printed an internationally recognised research paper entitled “Religious Leadership & the Pakistan Movement in Punjab”. In this research paper David Gilmartin openly accepts that the largest contribution to the Pakistan movement from amongst the Muslim religious schools of thought was by the large spiritual shrines and in particular those affiliated to the Chishti order. He names the Shrines of Taunsa shareef, Sial Shareef, Jalalpur Shareef, Gohlra Shareef as the main contributors from the Chishti order. As well as Alipur Shareef (Amir-e-Millat Pir Jammat Ali Shah Muhadith Alipuri –rh) from the Naqshbandi Shrines and the Shrine of Musa Paak Shaheed (rh) in Multan from the Qadri Shrines. Immense pressure was placed on these Shrines not to raise such awareness amongst the masses, but, their emerged a few leaders who stood up for change and David Gilmartin named Amir-e-Hizbullah Pir Muhammad Fazal Shah (rh) as one of the most consistent leaders in this respect from the early 1930’s through to 1945. In 1945 this shrine of Jalalpur Shareef announced full support for the Muslim struggle for an independent identity and in particular the Masses affiliated to this Shrine were convinced by Amir-e-Hizbullah to stand for their rights and independence. This Shrine of Jalalpur Shareef is well known for it’s role in the creation of Pakistan.
Shaykh Saeedi sb then further stated that we are here in Ashton-Under-Lyne, in this Central Mosque, in the year 2014 and in commemoration of the Urs of Jalalpur Shareef. Allah chooses moments and places through his will and destiny. It is not just a mere coincidence that we are all here today. We are here by the will of Allah and the blessings of Jalapur Shareef. Tehreek Minhaj-ul-Qur’an commenced it’s work in Europe exactly 30 years ago with the ‘Rodad Islamic Conference” in Oslo, Norway on 15th July 1984. This Conference was the venue for the first ever speech of Hazoor Shaykh-ul-Islam Dr Muhammad Tahir-ul-Qadri sb in Europe. The Conference was organised by the first Khatib of this Ashton Central Mosque (formerly Markazi Jamia Masjid Ashton-Under-Lyne), ‘Khateeb-e-Millat’ Hadrat Allama Mushtaq Ahmed Chishti sb (rh). The introduction to Hazoor Shaykh-ul-Islam’s first ever speech in Europe, thirty years ago, was made by none other than the then “Sajada Nasheen” of this Astaan-e-Alliyah Jalalpur Sharif, Hadrat Pir Syed Barkat Ahmed Shah sb Chishti Jalalpuri (rh), who was the eldest son of Amir-e-Hizbullah Pir Muhammad Fazal Shah sb Jalalpuri (rh). So there is a strong link between this blessed Astaana, this Mosque in Ashton and Tehreek Minhaj-ul-Qur’an, which goes back 30 years in Europe.
Shaykh Saeedi sb summarised his message for the Urs gathering in the words and slogan of Jalalpur Shareef. Which was summed up in two words by Amir-e-Hizbullah(rh) ‘Aik aur Naik raho’ ‘Remain Unified and Pious’ always. Shaykh Saeedi sb stated now it is time to follow the teachings of Amir-e-Hizbullah (rh) in letter and spirit, and whenever the nation of Pakistan needs Pakistani’s to stand up for their rights and create a free and just Pakistan. The Mashaikh of Pakistan will be in the frontline with Hazoor Shaykh-ul-Islam for the cause of the Mustafvi Inqilaab. Shaykh Saeedi sb finished his talk with the words of Allama Muhammad Iqbal (rh);
Nikl Kar Khanqahon Se Ada Kar Rasm-E-Shabeeri
Ke Faqr-E-Khanqahi Hai Faqat Andoh-O-Dilgeeri
[Come out of the monastery and play the role of Shabbir,
For monastery’s faqr is but grief and affliction.]
