Minhaj-ul-Qur'an UK condemns the brutal and horrific attack upon the Muslim worshippers today in Christchurch, New Zealand, in what can only be called an act of terrorism committed by far-right extremists.
We pray for those who have lost their lives and for their loved ones and wish the survivors a swift and fullest recovery.
This attack underlines the importance of tackling extremism of all kinds. We are particularly concerned about the rise of far-right extremism, and urge governments across the world to increase their efforts to prevent the spread of their hateful ideology and safeguard Muslim and all other minority groups from being targeted.
We are also concerned about the rise in Islamophobia, whether casual or institutional, which only serves to fuel the flames of far-right extremism and would like to see more action to tackle this problem, along with all other forms of racism and hate against minority groups that blight our societies.
