A group of 13 young women conducted a sponsored walk from Jamia Masjid Minhaj ul Quran Brunswick Street Nelson to the Singing Ringing Tree in the landscape of the Pennine Hills overlooking Burnley in aid of Syria and Palestine on Sunday 26th February 2017.

The sponsored walk was organised by Minhaj Sisters UK (Nelson) in conjunction with Minhaj Welfare Foundation under the Raising Smiles 2017 project. MWF is one of the largest non government international charity organisations in the world with a network of branches and projects in over 100 countries worldwide.

Minhaj Welfare Foundation has previously organised various challenges from Skydiving to Trekking Mount Snowdon, Kilimanjaro and the Great Wall of China.

On Sunday 19th February 2017 Minhaj-ul-Quran International held the annual Quaid Day celebrations to mark the 66th birthday of his eminence and founder of Minhaj-ul-Quran Shaykh-ul-Islam Dr Muhammad Tahir-ul-Qadri.  The event was hosted at Jamia Masjid Minhaj-ul-Quran Nelson and was jointly organised and attended by members, supporters and well-wishers aligned to the Nelson, Burnley, Accrington and Blackburn branches.

The Annual Ghaus-e-Azam (R.A.) conference was held at Jamia Masjid Minhaj-ul-Quran Nelson on Sunday 22nd January 2017.  It was organised by Minhaj-ul-Quran International Nelson and featured prominent local Ulema, Naat Khwaans and invited guests.  The main guest speaker was Director of Minhaj-ul-Quran Manchester Shaykh Abdul Sattar Siraj.  The mehfil was broadcast live on radio Awaaz FM and included recitation of the Holy Quran and several beautiful Manqabaths in honour of Syedna Ghausal-Azam Sheikh Abdul Qadir Gilani (RA).

During the month of Muharram, Minhaj-ul-Quran International held ten consecutive days of mehfils at Jamia Masjid Minhaj-ul-Quran, Nelson.  These daily mehfils were attended by local Naat Khawans and incorporated Thalawath, Naats, Manqabath and a short speech to discuss the events of Karbala and the esteemed sacrifice made by Hazrath Imam Hussain and their companions.  The mehfils were arranged between Maghrib and Isha prayers and langer was served for the full 10 days to all attendees.

Minhaj Women League Nelson arranged a workshop to raise awareness on cancer to mark World Cancer Day. The workshop commenced with the beautiful recitation of the Holy Quran by sister Nasreen Ashraf (MWL Nelson welfare secretary).

On Saturday 10th December 2016, Minhaj-ul-Quran International Nelson held the Annual Mawlid-un-Nabi Conference at Jamia Masjid Minhaj-ul-Quran.  The event was held after Isha prayer and was attended by internationally acclaimed Naat Khawan Zulfiqar Ali Hussaini and other invited guests.  The main guest speaker was Alama Azim Mumtaaz Al-Azhari.  The mehfil was also broadcast live on radio Awaaz FM.

By the grace of Almighty Allah SubhanaWaTallah Minhaj Women League Nelson organised its first Pakistan Independence Day Celebrations. The exciting event that touched the hearts of around 200 Pakistani women and children in the audience was held at Silverman Hall Nelson on the 29th of August 2016.
