Jamia masjid Minhaj-ul-Quran, Nelson, held a Namaz training course for young children under the age of 16. The course ran over the weekend of Saturday 26th September 2014 and Sunday 27th September 2014 and was conducted by Sister Tahira Basharat and Sister Naushaza Fiaz. The event was organised to teach children the correct way to read Namaz and also to inform them of the legalities of prayer. There were approximately 60 students in attendance at the course.

Day 1

Day 1 consisted of an introductory session, where sister Tahira explained briefly the tasks and activities that will be undertaken over the two days. The first session began with recitation of the Holy Quran which was done by Lybah Khan. This was followed by Qaseedah Burdah Sharif, which everyone read as a group. There was a naat Sharif of the Holy Prophet, which Komal Liaquat beautifully recited.

The talk of the session was delivered by Sister Safia Akhtar, who talked about the importance of reading Salah. She discussed various Ahadith and gave Quranic ayahs which explained the importance of praying five times a day. In addition to this she also spoke about the rewards and benefits of praying and encouraged everybody to pray their five daily prayers.

There was also a video shown to the children, which explained how to pray salah, and also showed all the key stages of praying.  This was followed by Sister Tahira explaining the Fardh acts of Salah. She explained all the compulsory aspects and also ensured that the children remembered them by quizzing them on the key points.

Sister Naushaza and Sister Mariam played a game of Islamic Hangman to quiz the children on the things they had learnt in the session. All the children enjoyed the activities and were keen to look forward to the next day of activities.

The event was concluded with Dua which was done by Amina Ahmed. There was also a tuck shop at the end for children to buy refreshments and sweets.

Day 2

The second day of the training course began with recitation of the Holy Quran by Noor Mehmood, and praises on the Holy Prophet (SAW). The first naat of the event was recited by Amina Ahmed and Irtiqah Mehmood, whilst the second was recited by Rabia Shaheen. The whole gathering then recited Qaseedah Burdah Sharif together as a group.

Sister Tahira then delivered a talk about the punishments and rewards of praying five times a day. An active demonstration was given with a candle. Students were asked to see if they would be able to bear the heat of a burning candle, no one could, thus showing that the heat of a simple candle was too much, imagine the heat of the hell fire. There was also a PowerPoint presentation delivered by sister Tahira, who explained the Conditions/compulsory acts of Salah. All the students also practically carried out each action and stage of the prayer, with some coming to the front to demonstrate the actions.

Children were also taught about the necessary requirements for prayers to be valid. They were shown examples of short sleeved clothes, dirty prayer mats and see through scarves, all of which lead to prayers being invalid.

The session was concluded with Dua and with Sister Tahira Basharat thanking and congratulating the students for attending and completing the Namaz Training Course.  Students were given booklets about Namaz Training Course and they were also given refreshments as a reward for completing the course.
