Jamia Masjid Minhaj-ul-Quran Nelson, students win regional Qiraat Competition

On Sunday 21st September 2014, a local community group called Anjuman Islah-ul-Muslimeen organised a regional Qiraat competition.  The competition was broadcast live on AWAAZ 103.1FM, a local community radio station, with young participants from all the surrounding mosques and education centres of Nelson and Burnley.


  • 2nd position: Noor Mahmood
  • 3rd Position: Iqra Noor


There were two winners for the under 16s competition:


  • 1st position: Atiyah Parveen (former Student)
  • 2nd Position: Nida Ajaz


All of the winners were students of Jamia Masjid Minhaj-ul-Quran. Parents celebrated by distributing sweets and snacks to students at the education centre.

The winners were also honoured with a special ceremony at the mosque. There was recitation of the Holy Quran by Noor Mahmood and Naat Sharif by Fatimah Rehman. The students were awarded gifts from members of staff and were congratulated on their success.  Students were also encouraged to take part in future competitions and events, and also told to practice more to perfect their recitations by teacher Tahira and other staff.  Parents also congratulated the teachers for preparing the students in such a good manor.
