Minhaj Women League Nelson arranged a workshop to raise awareness on cancer to mark World Cancer Day. The workshop commenced with the beautiful recitation of the Holy Quran by sister Nasreen Ashraf (MWL Nelson welfare secretary).

This was followed by a presentation on cancer awareness by Adila Parveen who is a radio therapist at Oldham hospital, and sister Saika (MWL Blackburn President).

The presentation was translated in Urdu by sister Naseem Hussain, so both Urdu and English speakers could benefit from this informative workshop. During the workshop the attendees learned the common signs and symptoms of the different kinds of cancer including lung, breast, bowel, cervical, skin and kidney/bladder cancers.

The attendees were also educated on how to take measures to prevent certain types of cancer by making different lifestyle changes, for example, exercising, healthy eating, regular check ups at the GP. During the workshop, the importance and value of cancer screening was reiterated and attendees were urged to follow through with such appointments.

The workshop was attended by over 30 ladies who gave positive feedback and requested for further such workshops to be arranged. Refreshments were provided at the end.
