During the month of Muharram, Minhaj-ul-Quran International held ten consecutive days of mehfils at Jamia Masjid Minhaj-ul-Quran, Nelson.  These daily mehfils were attended by local Naat Khawans and incorporated Thalawath, Naats, Manqabath and a short speech to discuss the events of Karbala and the esteemed sacrifice made by Hazrath Imam Hussain and their companions.  The mehfils were arranged between Maghrib and Isha prayers and langer was served for the full 10 days to all attendees.

The main Shuhada-e-Karabala Conference was held on the night of 10th Muharam with special guest speaker Allama Zahoor Ahmed Chisti attending the event.  Allama Saab spoke of the need to teach our children about Muharam and in particularly the Ahle-Bait.  He said if anyone wanted to see the Seerah of the Prophet (PBUH) then this was evident in the character and lives of Imam Hassan and Hussain.  Do not waste time on Facebook and other social media he said; instead study the life of Imam Hussain.  Allama Saab spoke of the key lessons Imam Hussain gave us, in particular the lessons of patience and obedience.  True patience is when a person is hit by grief or tragedy but maintains serenity and submission to Allah.

Allama Saab said our New Year resolution should be to ask forgiveness from Allah and the thofeeq to read Namaz.  He emphasized the need to study and learn the Deen of Islam so that we may teach our children in the future.  Allama Saab concluded the event by making prayer for all attendees and Qari Zahid-ul-Rehman lead Isha prayers.  Langaray Hussaini was served to all attendees.
