MYL-S Halifax holds Eid Festival 2012 at Halifax High School

Muslim Youth League UK Sisters Halifax held a fun filled ‘Eid festival 2012’ at The Halifax High School at Wellesley Park from 1pm – 5pm on Saturday 1st September 2012.

The aims of this event were to bring together the whole family and raise funds for the various different projects of MYLUK-S.

It was packed full of a variety of different activities for everyone to enjoy, including bouncy castle, Junior Hijab fashion show, Raffle draws, face painting, mehndi, stalls including the MYL-S Disperse project book stall featuring the London Declaration, The Fatwa on Suicide Bombings and Terrorism by Shaykh-ul-Islam Dr Muhammad Tahir-ul-Qadri and the english translations of Shaykh-ul-Islam’s Minhaj-us-Sawi and Teaching of Islam series. Also hot and cold food, tea stall, Iman Hijabs, Fatima Boutique, Dreams clothing, Hijab Corner, Jalak fashion, cupcakes and much more.. There were also surprise appearances by Mickey Mouse and SpongeBob!

There was an amazing turnout of approximately 200 people throughout the afternoon and everyone had an amazing time.

The event consisted of people going to all the different stalls and meeting, talking and eating together. The children especially enjoyed the bouncy castle, face painting and mehndi! A short while later, MYL-S Halifax member Tanya Mukhtar led the Hijab fashion show which included 10 young girls showing the participants their colourful hijab styles.

Then the raffle was drawn by MYL-S members Sobia Hamid and Safyah Akhtar, in third place was young girl who won a tasty cupcakes gift box, in second place was Sufia Begum who won a 6-DVD series of Shaykh-ul-Islam’s lectures and first prize was a very pleasantly surprised participant who won a beautiful calligraphy frame with Ayat Al Kursi written in gold.

Finally, the long awaited entrance of Mickey Mouse and SpongeBob arrived! They wowed all the children straightaway, who lined up to take a picture with their favourite cartoon characters!

The total amount raised was a whopping £821.05; the MYL-S Halifax team would like to thank everyone involved, especially the aunties who helped with the food, in making this event a great success!
