On the 15th of July 2012, Muslim Youth League Birmingham organised its second annual Ramadan Crash Course. The course constituted a 3 hour intensive on Spirit of Fasting; how to move beyond the outward form of Fasting and attain perpetual spiritual benefits. The course was supplemented by free notes for all attendees, who numbered over a 100.

Beginning with a commentary of select Prophetic narratives on the virtues of Fasting and those who Fast, the students were then taken through the insightful work of Shaykh ‘Abdul Qadir al-Jilani and Imam al-Ghazzali on the requirements of the inward fast. The Imam provides a detailed delineation of how Fasting can transcend the mere experience of hunger and thirst, to a more profound experience, in which every limb of the human being takes a portion of the Fast.

We pray Allah- Exalted be He- allow us to receive and honour the blessed month of Ramadan, and to reap the eternal benefits placed therein.
